• To help distinguish it from Washington, D.C., our city is sometimes known as “Little Washington.” It is also the first city in the nation named after our first president, George Washington.
• During the American Revolutionary War, Washington served as a supply port while all other major neighboring ports were under British siege.
• In 2008 and 2010, Greenville was named one of the nation's "100 Best Communities for Young People" by the America's Promise Alliance. In June 2012, Greenville was ranked in the top ten of the nation's "Best Small Places for Business and Careers" by Forbes Magazine.
• The founder of Greenville was Wilbur Hardee, who also founded the Hardee’s chain of restaurants.
